So today is my first post about this journey I am now on. I am actually excited to start posting as I am lacking direction and drive, especially over the past week. I am really missing work, routine and the kids at school and I can honestly say, this first round of chemo has not knocked me around too much physically at all. I am now 12 days post chemo and feeling good. I’ve started walking along the esplanade this week and soaking up that salty air. It’s good for the soul and it is creating a new routine for me now that the most recent wounds from the port insertion are three weeks into healing.

So today’s affirmation is: This does not break my spirit. I rise and shine even brighter. These Affirmation for Warriors cards were a gift from my friend, Melis, and I read one every day. It is part of my routine also.
Establishing a routine takes time and is dependent on how your body responds and reacts at different stages of the chemo cycle. I am learning to listen to my body and lower my expectations in order to avoid frustration and impatience, but it’s not easy. My basic routine is loosely as follows:
- Awake to a daily affirmation card next to my bed.
- Respond to family and friend check ins.
- Prepare the kids for their school day.
- School drop off/ hand kids over to person taking them to school.
- Walk/ swim.
- Home for morning tea and post.
- Read/ colour down time.
- Rest
